Georgia refuses to expand Medicaid and provide health care coverage to hundreds of thousands of its citizens. Georgia is one of eight southern states that deny health coverage to their neediest populations. The federal government will pay 90% of the cost of giving coverage to poor and minority families that lack the basic right to healthcare. There is no excuse.

FACTS:

  • Black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islanders and rural residents are most likely to lack health coverage in Georgia.

  • Uncovered families are often forced to do without necessities such as food, shelter, and transportation in order to pay for treatment and medications.

  • Over 250,000 Georgians are locked out of medical coverage without Medicaid expansion.

  • Over 600,000 total Georgians would qualify for medical coverage if Georgia expanded Medicaid.

  • By rejecting Medicaid expansion Georgia is refusing to accept $3.5 billion in federal funding in 2022.
